A friend was pondering over some burning questions recently and I weighed in with my thoughts recently. I thought I should post his questions and my thoughts here:
Friend: How did evil become present in Heaven, resulting in an arch angel going against God?
My thoughts: Just as cold is not the opposite of hot; but the absence of heat, evil is not the opposite of good, but just the absence of good. So, in that sense, evil is just a word we use to describe the absence of Good. As Jesus said, God is good and so is the ultimate reality.
Friend: How can hell exist if all the universe were created by God? and Why are we punished eternally for our "bad deeds"?
My thoughts: Well Paul the apostle said that God is a consuming fire. If that were so, then if hell was an all consuming fire. it exists in God as well. The ultimate plan of God is that we should all be conformed to His image. If God's image is that of a consuming fire than his plan is for us to be transformed into a consuming fire as well. Can fire consume fire? So the all consuming fire consumes everything except fire itself.
Friend: What is suffering?
My thoughts: Suffering is but a fact of life, which no man can escape from. Suffering is but the result of choices, either by us or those that preceded us.
Friend: What is the soul's purpose?
My thoughts: To exist with God in all His abundance.
Friend: Why does God not speak to us directly?
My thoughts: Well, he actually does. Jesus said, my sheep hears my voice. Very often it is us that are distracted or choose not to hear.
Friend: Why do we not see God?
My thoughts: One of Jesus' disciples said Him, show me the Father and that woud be enough. Jesus said, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father". The followers of Christ are indeed a reflection of Christ Jesus Himself; and if you have seen a true disciple of Him, you have seen God Himself.Ravi Philemon
